The San Mateo Basins 2 and 3 Collection System Improvements project is part of the larger San Mateo Clean Water Program. The Clean Water Program is a comprehensive plan to upgrade aging infrastructure, enhance reliability and provide capacity for wet weather flows in the collection system.
The goal of the improvement is to eliminate sanitary sewer overflows and unauthorized discharges. The proposed collection system improvements include a new 5.2MG storage tank, new pump stations, rehabilitation, and construction of more than five miles of existing and new pipelines in the City of San Mateo.
ENGEO provided geotechnical evaluation to support alternatives analysis, prepared a geotechnical and environmental work plan and implemented a city-wide geotechnical and environmental exploration program. ENGEO performed pump tests within the proposed 5.2MG storage tank site to determine groundwater flow rates and installed vibrating wire piezometers to evaluate groundwater drawdown rates and long-term groundwater levels.
The San Mateo Basins 2 and 3 Collection System Improvements project presented many challenges, especially related to implementation of the city-wide field exploration program within a public right-of-way. The field program required public notification efforts and management of multiple subcontractors performing various services, including traffic control, utility clearing, geotechnical drilling, and environmental drilling. ENGEO’s objective during implementation of the field program was to satisfy the City’s goal of limiting public disruption.
ENGEO provided a team comprising talented professionals committed to tackling the challenging project and completing it on time and on budget. We provided multiple services for different phases of the project. It was especially important for the San Mateo Basins 2 and 3 Collection System Improvements project to foster open lines of communication, provide immediate response to client concerns and questions, and maintain an unfailing sense of accountability to place the success of the City of San Mateo and the project overall as our absolute highest priority.
